Section 75: Today capitalism trumps democracy

The passing of Section 75 by the House of Lords yesterday, opening the door to privatisation of the National Health Service, made me dismay about the warning made 16 years ago, when US President Bill Clinton was warned about the risk of increasing wealth disparity

Best for the World: CHCA is people-centric

As the director of a people-centered business, I'm glad to hear that a home care organisation is aligned. It sounds like a good business. Since 2009, the fundamental human rights advocated by people-centered economics have been reflected by statements from both the Vatican and the United Nations

Paul Polman: Ending poverty through partnership

As CEO of Unilever Paul Polman is an advocate for what he calls Long Term Capitalism which distances itself from the traditional short termism that we're all familiar with.

Suggesting a framework for partnership he says "the framework must recognise that the best way of bringing people out of poverty is through economic development – which in turns requires governments creating the right conditions for business to flourish."

Terrorism

The basis of all civilization is the codification of law; the community's moral sense finds expression in laws, and though their observance is based in the last resort on fear of the consequences of contravening them, such fear, being dependent on a known contingency, is unoffensive, mild with no nightmarish quality in it.

Does government give ATOS ?

I offer some observations on Atos and government from the perspective of business.

When I relocated to the Forest in 2005, our was a business with a different focus. One whose profits were invested in social objectives. Although our major focus had been disabled children in Eastern Europe, those disenfranchised locally were also a concern.

Social Enterprise in Streatham

Thinking of the spirit of '45 I remember my father pulling out of the Labour Party after 60 years, writing to Tony Blair saying "You've removed clause 4, how long before you remove socialism?"
