A death in social enterprise

on the death of a friend and colleague. .To this day, I can find no reasonable explanation why some went to extraordinary lengths to prevent him being heard.

The passing of pioneer Terry Hallman yesterday marked the end of a long association which had begun 12 years ago from an online conversation about Dickens' Ignorance and Want allegory. He was until his last moments engaged in overseas outreach, putting the cause of Ukraine's children abandoned to state care ahead of his own health and eventually his life

He's been in Russia at the time of our online meeting and it was there that he'd first put his ideas on localised economic development and business for social purpose into action by sourcing the Tomsk Regional Initiative.

He'd challenged traditional capitalism as an insufficient paradigm and in 2003 he'd challenged Ukraine's government when he and other visitors began seeing children starved and frozen to death on the streets.

Returning to the United States and homelessness he'd challenged his own government to become signatories to the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights, in a fast from a tent in Chapel Hill NC, where a year or so later the Center on Poverty Work and Opportunity was opened by Senator John Edwards.

His visit and welcome to the UK was brief, yet led to the creation of the 'profit for purpose' business which enabled his return to Ukraine.

it was in 2006, that we learned of the orphanage at Torez, which was the location descibed in the 'shocking and insightful article' describing Ukraine's Death Camps for Children. These were and still are the psycho-neurological 'internats' where those considered imperfect are deposited. Terry's report was to reveal profit maximisation at the expense of human life, since many die of malnutrition and are buried in rough trench graves.

His seminal paper on microeconomic development and social enterprise in Ukraine, was to set out a 'Marshall Plan' strategy for social innovation which leveraged substantial change, particularly the domestic adoption of orphans which increased by 40% over the next 4 years.

It will be my task to ensure that his intellectual property benefits those he intended.
